The London Natural History Society is a long established conservation and wildlife recording charity run entirely by volunteers. Getting involved in the LNHS is a great way to make a difference, meet new people, learn new skills and learn about the wildlife and natural history of London. There are many ways to get involved: there are roles on different committees (see below), or you can contribute articles to the LNHS publications and website.
Current vacancies
LNHS Treasurer
The London Natural History Society traces its origins to 160 years ago. We are (urgently) looking for someone to take on the role of Treasurer from Mike West who is stepping down after 33 years. The book-keeping side of the financial administration is relatively simple because the LNHS is a small volunteer-led society. Typically, there are around 60 entries for the entire year and these are maintained on a simple Excel sheet with around a dozen columns. The role would benefit from someone with the confidence to participate in discussions at LNHS Council.
The accounting side will be straightforward for anyone experienced in an administrative or finance role. We are also happy to hear from someone who does not have a finance background but is keen to gain experience in the administrative and financial side of a conservation NGO. It will be easy for someone comfortable with Excel to learn how to maintain the simple accounts. Mike West will be on hand to help with an extended transition period if necessary. The collection of annual subscriptions is handled by the Deputy Treasurer, further simplifying the administrative tasks on the Treasurer. The role would benefit from someone with the confidence to participate in discussions at LNHS Council.
